Yes. If you wish to collect a rebate from Medicare, then you will need a current referral from your GP. You can also get a referral from your physio or podiatrist, but you will still need a GP referral in order to collect the Medicare rebate.

Dr King endeavours to see patients in a timely fashion. Appointment slots are reserved each week for acute injuries to ensure optimal management. When appointment slots are heavily booked, we maintain a cancellation waitlist, so patients’ appointments may be brought forward wherever possible. Call us on (07) 3346 1770 and we will do our best to accommodate you.

The initial consultation fee is $220.00. Follow up visits are $140.00.

Medicolegal assessment and reporting fees and medical certificate fees are separate and depend on the nature of the service required; please feel free to phone our rooms to discuss.

If your treatment involves surgery, we will provide you with a written estimate. The cost of surgery varies depending on the length and complexity of the procedure. In most cases, fees charged are below AMA rates and private health insurance should cover a significant portion of the surgical fee, depending on the health fund and level of cover and the complexity of the procedure. The surgery fee is inclusive of visits to you in hospital after your procedure, and the initial post-op appointment held at the clinic in the weeks after your procedure.

Once Dr King has assessed your condition, he will discuss your treatment options with you to ensure you have the best possible treatment plan.

If the plan involves surgery, Dr King will fully explain what the procedure involves, the length of time in hospital, recovery times and procedures. He will also answer any questions you may have.

We will set a date for your surgery and send you an information pack with detailed instructions containing all you need to know about the hospital stay, anaesthetic, pre-operative (before the operation) information and an estimate of the fee. The information pack may also include consent forms for you to sign and return, if you had not already done this at your appointment.

In some instances, Dr King may require you to see other specialists (e.g. cardiologist or physician) prior to surgery taking place. In such cases he will arrange the referral(s) for you.

The length of your stay in hospital after surgery varies depending on the procedure and your recovery. In some cases, you will be seen by a physiotherapist in hospital who will give you some exercises to do to help aid in your recovery. Once Dr King is happy with your progress you will be able to return home. You will be supplied with instructions regarding wound care, medications, suitable activities and when to come back for your post-operative review.

Dr King does not currently operate on uninsured patients.

On the day of your appointment, please bring the following:

  • Current referral from your GP
  • Medicare number
  • Private health fund details (if you have cover)
  • DVA, Workcover or CTP claim numbers (if relevant)
  • Any X-rays, MRIs or CT scans relevant to your condition (in addition to the radiology reports), or provide Dr King with electronic access
  • A list of current medications and any previous operations.

Yes, if you want to claim a rebate for your consultation from Medicare. You can make the appointment without a referral, but you will need to get one before your appointment and have it on the day.

Yes. You will still need a GP referral if you want to collect the Medicare rebate.
