Dr King grew up in Townsville and received his medical degree, with honours, from the University of Queensland. He went on to complete his surgical training with postings to Nambour, Toowoomba and Brisbane hospitals and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (orthopaedics).

After completing his training, Dr King was attached to the Lower Limb Trauma and Arthroplasty (joint replacement) Unit at the PA Hospital, a position he still holds. This unit receives patients from hospitals all over QLD and the Northern Territory, placing the surgeons at the forefront of orthopaedic care in this state.

Dr King was the co-deputy director of Orthopaedics at the PA Hospital from 2009 - 2016. He is a Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland School of Clinical Medicine and is involved in the training of orthopaedic registrars and Overseas Fellows undertaking subspecialty training.

In 2012 Dr King was awarded a Queensland Health Australia Day Award for Excellence in the Care of the Elderly Fractured Neck of Femur Patients.

Dr King specializes in surgery of the lower limb. He also has a particular interest in rural and remote health care.

A commitment to professional development and continuing education sees Dr King attend conferences and workshops on a regular basis, nationally and internationally. In 2013, Dr King co-authored two papers which were accepted for presentation at the American Orthopaedic Trauma Association Annual Scientific Meeting.

Dr King’s practice philosophy is based on the notion of treating each patient as an individual, with differing needs and priorities. By presenting all the available options in detail he hopes to help his patients arrive at a decision that they feel comfortable with – which may or may not involve surgery.

Dr King is a member of the following professional societies;

  • Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons,
  • Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA)
  • AOA Foot and Ankle Subspecialty Interest Group
  • AOA Trauma Society Subspecialty Interest Group
  • AOA Arthroplasty Society
  • Australian Medical Association.

In his spare time, Dr King enjoys relaxing with his wife and four children, preferably out camping, fishing or otherwise exploring the great outdoors.
